With Eid being just round the corner, bazaars in Dhaka city are buzzing as droves head towards five of the biggest exhibitions being held to attract shopaholics with handloom and cottage industry products.

Weavers are delighted over the fact that the fair is providing them with a platform to market their products, besides; it is also giving them publicity and an opportunity to introduce newer products to the customers.

One such exhibition has been organized by the Bangladesh Small Cottage Industry Manufacturers and Business Society. This month long 6th Tant Bastro O Jamdani Mela-2008 has taken grounds on the premises of Shilpakala Academy in Segunbagicha with 180 stalls.

The fair started from the first of Ramadan with the slogan – Use local products to save cottage industry- and will be displaying a host of traditional handloom products like Jamdani from Sonargaon, Tant from Tangail and Narsingdi, Khadi from Comilla, Nakshikantha from northern districts and some jute products. This apart, the fair is also selling handloom products of the ethnic groups living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

Moreover, the Jatiya Mahila Sangstha under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has also organized a four day Eid Fair from September 15 that aims at promoting the women entrepreneurs of the country.

Another month long fair on Mirpur National Bangla High School premises is attracting a large segment of Dhaka residents living in the area in Mipur-Pallabi area while two more small and cottage industry fairs at Agargaon and Khamarbari are also luring a huge crowd.

Weaving units are not only getting the opportunity to display their products but are also receiving whole sale orders from buyers. The fair is providing a right platform for the artisans and their products.
